American, European and Asian Art featured at Exceptional Winter Auction

               2112 - Ken Knowles O/C   Kaminski Auctions will host an exceptional winter auction over two days on Saturday, the 21st and Sunday, the 22nd of January.  Both days will feature American and European fine art, decorative art and furniture, as well as Asian art, rugs, jewelry and silver.

One of the highlights among the furniture offered in the sale is a set of Regency style mahogany and maple library steps concealed in the form of a leather cover and brass mounted pole which, when opened, reveals six rungs. The library stairs are estimated at $3000-$4000. There is also a mahogany card table by Samuel Field MacIntyre having his famous motif of a carved basket of fruit and acanthus leaf carved posts over rope turned legs on brass casters. This lovely table is estimated at $2000-$3000.

A wide selection of artists is represented, including several prominent local artists such as Ken Knowles.  One of several works by Knowles in this sale will be "White Mountain Farm". The painting is a large, lovely, winter snow scene; an oil on canvas that is signed lower right and estimated to bring $3000-$4000. Another featured American artist is Bruce Laine (Arizona, 20th century). His sculpture depicting a tall cliff with a winged Icarus-like figure in flight, is cast bronze and has a brown polished patina and turquoise accents with a wood and marble base estimated at $1200-$1800.

There will be wonderful European pieces of fine art as well. Highlights include a work by Max Theodor Streckenbach (German, 1865-1936) of a still life of flowers, a signed oil on canvas mounted on board, estimated at $1000-$1500, and an oil on canvas of a "Woman in Chair" by Nanno de Groot (Dutch, 1913-1963), signed and dated 1956, estimated at $6000-$8000. There is also an oil on canvas painting attributed to Sabastiano Ricci (Italian, 1659-1734) of "Christ Forgiving the Centurion", estimated at $4000-$6000.

Porcelain offerings include a very large 19th century German beer stein that is 39 inches tall estimated at $4000-$6000, and a stunning pair of early 19th century French Sevres covered urns having three painted panels estimated at $5000-$7000. Also from France, an antique French trunk labeled E. Goyard, Paris with brass hardware and lined, estimated at $800-$1200.

Toy collectors will be interested in a collection of antique toys including trains, cars and trucks from makers such as Marx, Tonka, Keystone and Structo.

Asian works of art include pieces of porcelain and jade, garden seats, scroll paintings, statues of Buddha, and a great variety of other items. Highlights for Asian works include a late 19th century Chinese carved wood chest having hardstone and jade inlay on the top and sides estimated at $1200-$1500 and a lot of two 20th century Chinese bronze mirrors estimated at $400-600. Another featured item is a small mottled green jade pen washer having a carved lotus blossom with leafy vines, and bird and cricket design estimated at $1000-$2000.

There is a wonderful collection of jewelry including a lot of 14K gold and garnet bangle bracelets ($1300-$1500) and a Roth art glass pendant on a cobra style 14K chain necklace ($1000-$1500), as well as several designer pieces, including a set of 18K gold Cartier cufflinks estimated at $1000-$1500.

The sale also features a vast collection of drapery, furniture, and light fixtures from a prominent Copley Square hotel in Boston, MA. It will include draperies and tassel tiebacks in many different colors, patterns, and fabrics as well as a wide selection of furniture including dining chairs and wonderfully carved mirrors. There will also be hanging chandeliers, ceiling fixtures, wall sconces, and lamps including a group of French Empire brass chandeliers.
